ESR14 – Evaluation and characterization of REEs toxicity in aquatic and terrestrial plant models

The Early Stage Researcher for this research topic is Isidora Gjata:

In 2017, I graduated from the University of Tirana (Albania) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Following my first degree, I remained at the same university, where I graduated with a Master of Science degree in Environmental Biology, and during this time I developed a particular interest in the Botany field.

Furthering this interest, in my M.Sc. thesis I used macroalgae and phanerogams as effective biological indicators for the assessment of the ecological status in transitional waters. 

I believe that I am a very diligent and highly motivated student. I am certain to push through with the dedication I have always worked with, to accomplish my goals and gain more knowledge and insight in this field.

I decided to apply for this doctoral program at Università Degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro (UNIBA) as its research interests are an excellent match for my academic background and I am so happy and honored to have been accepted. 

This Early Stage Researcher will be hosted in Università Degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro and be supervised by Franca Tommasi and Costantino Paciolla.

The goal of this research topic is to improve the knowledge on ecotoxic responses to different REE (light and heavy) in aquatic and terrestrial plants, on the basis of their bioavailability in soils and waters.

Data gathered will provide also information on the comparative evaluation of toxic effects of single element and of REE mixtures regarding their speciation. 

Two secondments are planned:
-    HAW Hamburg(four months): aquatic toxicity; 
-    Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II (four months): REE concentration analysis in plant tissues;
